This course offers an in-depth exploration of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), the leading cause of Evaporative Dry Eye (EDE). It guides participants through the anatomy and physiology of the meibomian glands, the role of meibum in tear film stability, and the clinical features of lipid-deficient dry eye. The course also emphasizes modern imaging techniques such as meibography and provides a practical approach to the diagnosis, documentation, and long-term management of MGD.

Participants will gain both the scientific foundation and clinical insights necessary to detect early dysfunction, educate patients, and personalize treatment strategies based on glandular morphology.

Anatomy and function of meibomian glands and their role in maintaining a stable tear film.
Pathophysiology of MGD and its progression toward Evaporative Dry Eye (EDE).
Symptoms associated with lipid deficiency in the tear film and how to distinguish them from other ocular surface disorders.
Principles and interpretation of meibography, including structural markers such as gland tortuosity, dropout, and atrophy.
Meibography grading systems and automated classification tools (e.g., signal index, tortuosity index).
Clinical use of meibography for diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient counseling.
Comprehensive management of MGD, including lifestyle modifications, eyelid hygiene, medical therapy (steroids, antibiotics, cyclosporine), and device-based treatments such as LipiFlow.
Use of autologous serum drops, punctal plugs, and other supportive measures for severe or resistant cases.
